Saint Mark's celebrated Scout Sunday at the 9:00 service on Sunday, March 30. Many ages and ranks of Girls Scouts
( Daisy, Brownie, etc.) and Boy Scouts (Wolf, Webelos, etc.) took part, each take a role as crucifer, acolyte, usher, oblations,
collection, or reading the lesson. The congregation joined the Scouts and leaders in a special prayer for the Scouts. Mother Anne
presented each Scout and leader with a special purple patch for the occasion. (It wouldn't be a Scout event without a patch,
now would it?) Scouts who had earned God and Country awards last year, wore their medals proudly.
Taking part were: Shana Hayward, George Hayward, Mattie Hayward, Alex Henry, Sam Henry, John Lindsay, Claire Scarborough,
Erin Scarborough, Christopher Wolfe, and Noah Zearfoss (a guest of Anjel Scarborough and a Webelos Cub Scout
in John Lindsay's den).
"Duty to God" is a fundamental part of both Scout programs. Typically Boy Scout Sunday is the First Sunday in February and
Girl Scout Sunday is the Sunday of the week in which March 12th falls (Girl Scouts' birthday), but the decision was made to
postpone our celebration until after Easter, which fell unusually early this year. This is the fifth consecutive celebration of Scout
Sunday at St. Mark's in the recent past and each year it continues to grow.
